Have you received your Sonic? I’d love to read your review.
I’ve been thinking about this topic for a while now, especially since acquiring a wonderful “big name” non-compensating horn, and joining a wind ensemble that plays challenging (Gr 3-5) music.
...
I’m totally committed to my amazing and beautiful non-compensating, large bore “senior citizen” horn and I paid somewhere within your price range for it.
If you have time to follow the sales on...
EXCELLENT POST! Thank you!
May is my Anniversary Month. I started lessons on my plastic euphonium in May 2019, with an amazing teacher.
I began playing in a community band around the same time. Then of course, the pandemic....
Try, if you can, to PLAY a Festivo before you purchase online.
I’m nothing but an ignorant but very dedicated beginner, and I experienced almost exactly the same situation following my COVID infection.
Although I’d previously made a confident start on the 2nd...
A little off topic- Is it “legal” to double tongue the notes in the first measure of the March (Holst 2nd Suite) ?
As a “broken wing” player I want to mention that balance is almost as important as weight.
The Wessex Double I play weighs the most of any I play, and when seated, is among the most comfortable....
Go to bandmusicpdf and pick out a few Sousa Marches or overtures or anything by Holst, Grainger, Vaughan Williams et al, print out the euphonium parts or the baritone parts and give ‘em a go!

I’m playing an amazing uncompensated horn that has the beautiful tone of a large bore but is a very light blower.
It is a “name” horn, and I am super happy with it.
If you get a chance, seek...
I’m in the same thought mode as tokuno. I’m now alternating between two nice horns, one a Willson 2704 and the other a heavily revised Wessex Festivo that I bought 2nd hand.
IMO it is REALLY...
Try a Willson 2704 if you can find one. They’re not the same as the 2280, but I notice that they’re well within your price range when they come up for sale.
It was my recollections of playing this under the direction of Keith Brion MANY years ago that ultimately forced me, against my better judgement, to attempt to begin euphonium instruction a couple...
I’m waiting for a middle level euphonium with very nice tone to be returned to me from a local shop that has done amazing work for me on other instruments in the past.
The current project will...
It’s really good to read this.
In my area, there is a LOT of emphasis on modern wind ensemble music, and although some of the community bands still seem to be playing +/-Gr. 2 1/2 oldies, the...
If you “like” music, even quite a bit, you are in a good place to explore other potential options.
If music is your passion, the most important thing in your life, something that inspires and...
I’ve just received a wonderful new euphonium as a 44th wedding anniversary present.
My non-musical spouse couldn’t be more “tolerant”.
He left for yesterday’s outdoor concert before I did, to...
Beautiful, and I’m sure it sounds just as good!
The Connstellation will always be a major favorite of mine, and just by luck I happened to come across the pamphlet that he’d done for Conn, some time in the ‘60s I think, and being, as I am, a...
I started, as an adult with a pretty good stock of musicality, with Arbans, added Rochut about 4 months in, began Horovitz last Fall in my end year.
Now I’m just starting to do a little practice...
Is this a patent concern? If so it would seem that the holder of the patent could sell enough of these to make it worth h/h while.
if not a patent issue, why isn’t somebody making them?
Edited...
My 2 cents- although I was eligible as soon as vaccination became available in my “hotspot” area AND had close to zero exposure to anyone, I DID become infected in January, and am just now, in...
I’ve always appreciated the 4th “water key” Guidocorona.
Are there still to be 4 water keys on the newest version of the Festivo? I think I recall reading somewhere that there might be a change. ...
I play in a darn decent sounding community band, and my end goal since beginning low brass is to audition for a really good selected wind ensemble, at college level if possible. I’m not at all...
