Mine is dead on using a Schilke 58.
All I really want to do is fart around with some home multitrack recordings. I was in a brass band for a while but it is a 90 minute drive from home, so that got old fast.
What would you guys think about this horn?

I had a blow on the JP 172 today. Seems like a nice horn, but I took out the valves to oil them and had a heck of a time getting them back in properly. The valve guides didn't really click into place...
My friend at a local music store is got bring in a 172 for me to try out.
Baritone would just be another Bb horn to play with a slightly different sound. Tenor/Alto would be a chance to try something new. I play a bit of alto trombone, so I am used to the Eb fingerings.
Hey I know this is a euph forum, but it seems like a good place to start. I am toying with getting an alto horn just for the heck of it as something else to play with during what seems like it may be...
I got a 274 about 6 weeks ago, largely based on the recommendation of Mark on the tubenet forum. I have been very happy with it so far, although I spend way more time playing bone than euphonium. I...
My cat leaves the room pretty fast when I practice, but my 13 year old dog hangs out with me. He is about half deaf though.
I think I have it sold for $1,200, which includes about $75 shipping, so say $1,100 for the horn. I paid $1,800 in 96 or so, so that's really not too bad.
You are in high school and debating on which $8,000 euphonium to buy?
I have been on the Packer 274 for a couple of weeks now. It is a very nice horn but dang is it heavy compared to the Willson. And getting used to playing 4th with the left hand is a bit of a...
I listed it on ebay with an opening price of $900 and a buy it now of $1,500. I had emailed a guy at Dillon's about maybe selling it on consignment and his response was "The Willson 2704 is like the...
Were you able to sell this horn? Just curious as I have one I am looking to move.
What is a reasonable asking price for a Willson 2704 in excellent condition? Approx 20 years old. 4 Valve. Non-Comp. Despite being told on here that I probably didn't really need a compensating horn,...
I hope you like it. I had a chance to demo one of those a couple of years ago and I remember that the angle of the lead pipe forces you to put most of the weight of the horn on the left arm, which I...
Bad timing. Wessex is having a Black Friday sale and the Festivo is going for $1,400.
My playing in a concert band almost never goes below an E.
On my Willson 2704 non-comp horn, the A at the top of the bass clef staff is about 30 cents flat, no matter how I finger it, even when the rest of the horn is in good tune. Is that just a quirk on...
Changing the subject just a bit - has anyone tried tuning their 4th valve to low E instead of low F? My Willson 2704 can't get quite that far out with the current 4th valve slide. But the C and low F...
I spoke with a guy at Wessex a week or two ago about this horn. He said they were taking deposits for February delivery. I believe the deposit is $1K.
She plays a mean trumpet and trombone and sings too. If you are not familiar with Aubrey Logan, you should check her out as well - amazing jazz singer and trombonist.
I bet if Tom Hanks played a euph it would be a Willson.
Good advice. I think I will stick with Willson for now. Like they say - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I do have a hard time sometimes with the pinky fingering, especially in faster passages. So I often use 123 instead of 2-4 on those, even though the intonation is a bit off. But I don't know if that...
