I should also mention that the K&G feels more rounded in terms of its rim profile.

I should also mention that the K&G feels more rounded in terms of its rim profile.
I've got them both.
To me, the DC3 feels a bit smaller, feels like it has more core, and seems darker to me.
The K&G 3.5D+ feels wider in terms of cup width, isn't quite as deep and feels...
Not to stir the pot, but it looks like Dillon has a Shires Solo model for sale. Looks like they're hitting the "wild".
Mike
May you get many years of enjoyment!
Pending.
I did end up buying it, for less than the advertised price.
I had a thorough cleaning done, and replaced all the bumpers and springs. It plays well.
I have the Brandon Jones warburton in both silver and gold, and the giddings in both stainless and titanium.
Which one are you looking for?
Thanks Steve. Its exciting that we will have a US maker producing a high end euphonium again. I think Kanstul made one before they closed but there isnt another to my knowledge.
Seems shortsighted of Eastman/Shires to use an out of the box configuration that doesn't work well with one of the most popular mouthpiece lines for euphonium.
Do you know whether this is...
Points taken, though I don't personally agree - I prefer a 4 valve instrument to a 3 valve. Both from the standpoint of available alternates, and for 4th valve usage in difficult lit.
Mike
Welcome to the forum!
I wouldn't necessarily agree the neo is THE horn to buy - I believe it's a 3 valve horn, and you may want a 4th valve for some more difficult works.
I'm also primarily a...
I appreciate your insight - as an American, I have had very few opportunities to hear a proper UK band in person, and American bands don't always adhere to the same sound concept or approach as UK...
Interesting take. That said, I dont feel like Im capable of being LESS loud on an 11 bell. Just a different timbre.
Ok, Im admittedly bored. I was reading through some older threads talking about bell size, and Im wondering who in the brass band world plays an 11 bell.
It strikes me that the additional core...
Does anyone know whether it's an option to get a heritage euph/trombone piece in just silver plate rather than the silver/gold? It looks like it's an option for the Tuba pieces but may not be for...
As the title says. Looking for euph 103 rim. Silver preferred.
I was scheduled to go play the one at Paige's music in Indy today, but got called in to work. I may try to get over there next week.
So, did anyone go play these things at midwest?
Mike
Anything special needed to come play it?
I played this horn for several rehearsals a few years ago, and it is indeed a nice example of a 2900.
Good luck Mark! Miss you!
Boy, no kidding! What a buy!
I'm meeting this guy on Saturday to check this horn out. Maybe it's a dog, maybe it's great. Will report back.
Unrelated to the ad itself, it's worth noting that this horn would have the "wider" 3rd valve slide spacing that makes accessing the 4th valve more difficult for some.
I'll send you a photo of my studio - my guitar collection makes my horn collection look like a starter kit. :D
The ad says "previously played and hand selected by the Sotto Voce Tuba Quartet". If it was patrick's horn, that is true. I did reach out to Patrick via email - we'll see if I get a response.
