A laugh a day keeps the Doctor away! :)
The three photos aren't enough to make an appraisal, but the price seems reasonable. The case isn't original and it probably lacks the lyre and mouthpiece. Serial numbers are important. It may be...
Thanks for sharing!
That was very nice; a lot of talent there!
Does adjusting the AGR have an effect on response, in particular, on articulation?
You might give a used Yamaha 321 serious consideration. If you are patient, you can find one in good condition well within your budget. If you get a good one and care for it, you should be able to...
Getting back to the original topic of piston maintenance: is it possible that some of the crud we see in the piston caucades and bottom caps is an emulsion formed by the mechanical action of the...
That seems possible, but there may not be much crud if you do it regularly.
Every once in a while I'll do an "extreme spitball" event. Here's how it works: 1) fill your 1st valve slide with water...
Good one!
Nice web site too! You might wish to revisit the section on valve care. As I read it: if you keep your valves clean, then you will never need to oil. What a concept
My Cronkhite bag is one that has just gotten better with age!
I've had pistons swapped after a chem clean, so it's easy to imagine that stems or bumpers may get swapped. What this means, of course, is that not all technicians verify that everything is in...
I've been using Blue Juice for many years now. Every once in a while I'll try another oil, but I always come back to Blue Juice. My valves stay clean, and the horn stays pretty clean too. I also use...
Thanks for posting! It was very good!
The Couturier is actually American! Not only did E.A. Couturier design fully conical instruments, he also avoided sharp turns in the tubing. Yes, you have to spin the horn to empty water! The York is...
Here is part of my stable of instruments:

Love that engraving! I hope it's next owner is heavily tatooed to match
"solbron" was Boosey & Co's trade name for their piston plating material. I have a solbron imperial euphonium (SN 132871) whose pistons are similar.
I suggest that when practicing slowly, be sure to "pound" the valves. Clarity suffers when the valves are not depressed very quickly; you can imagine what happens if you were to depress the valves...
Nice work, very euphonious!
I've been oiling *after* practice for years based on the advice of Mike Milnarik, a Boston area tuba pro. He publishes a nice daily routine and to quote from it: "Best time to oil your valves......

Here are some photos of my ~1910 York euphonium. The High/Low pitch adapter can be seen at the lower left of the 1st photo. The adapter can be seen in the low pitch position in the...
I have a York euphonium with this feature. The extra slide serves to lengthen the main tuning slide and convert it from high pitch to low pitch. York had a patent on this, and the slide is likely to...
You can get felts and corks on line if you're inclined. I think the key buttons also had felt under them. Getting the right sized felts will allow the pistons to be in proper alignment in both the up...
