Basically I agree with everyone else. I just finished my first year of college and I *just* upgraded to a Yamaha Neo, but I spent my first two semesters fighting with the intonation on my Wessex...
Does anybody know how these horns play? Looking to upgrade from my Wessex Dolce, and I realize the only way to really know is to play them, but any advice would be awesome. They're right in my price...
I know people who use towels and I know people who use yoga blocks to hold up their horns, so consider that too. Practicing with a mirror is an absolute must when you are trying to fix your issue
If you can get out to ITEC to try more horns, then definitely do that. I don't think you should rush to get him a new horn, though. I'm a college freshman and my Wessex Dolce is serving me well for...
If you want to work on tone and consistency, the simple exercises at the beginning of the book are pretty good for that
Maslanka and Alfred Reed can write some pretty great euphonium parts. I've played a couple of their pieces, some of which were symphonies, and I was never even remotely disappointed.
First of all, you did really great in this recording.
When you play for somebody and ask for them to critique you in hopes of furthering your musicianship, I think it's important to realize that...
Best of luck to you! I don't think you'll be disappointed when you finally get it
I try to practice my horn outside of rehearsal for 2-3 hours each day for almost everyday out of the week. Usually I don't practice on either Saturday or Sunday, but when I get practicing after my...
Wow time flies. I remember reading your review for the first time because it is ultimately what convinced me to pull the trigger on getting a Dolce.
Anywho, the Dolce isn't really a dent magnet....
I am a college freshman, and I was looking at most of those same schools as your son is. However, having sifted through all of these colleges, what I found out is that UMich probably isn't worth it...
I flew many times with my Dolce, however I refused to use the case that came with it. I used an SKB travel case and stuffed the bell with bubble wrap and foam. That seemed to do the trick
I got braces when I was in 8th grade (I just graduated high school), and I went through a similar experience. The biggest thing you can do is keep playing. Your sound overall might probably isn't...
J.E. Barat's Andante et Allegro is the solo I'm working on right now for a competition. It goes up to a high Bb a few times and there is a decent amount of time spent around high Gb, G, and Ab. If...
I am getting the impression that valve felts and pads are the exact same thing. Is this true?
I thought the Yammy was a small shank ???
Considering he isn't planning on majoring in music and he's doubling on euph, I will echo Andrew's suggestion on the Yamaha 321 or the King 2280. A compensating system isn't really necessary for...
I was a little irritated when I found out that my mouthpiece wouldn't fit in my SKB case. So instead I stored the mouthpiece in a little drawstring bag with my music, valve oil, and left-hand strap....
Sweet! Thanks!
I haven't really started to push above a high Bb yet because I never needed to. However, since I am graduating high school, I figure that it would be in my best interest to start stretching my range...
I was always curious to see how the Geneva horns stacked up against the rest of the market. They don't seem to be too common
If you have the Arban's Trombone and Euphonium book, the exercises in the first 20-30 pages will probably help. Just work on the fundamentals and be patient. You'd be surprised by what "easy"...
At All-State this year, the clinician strongly recommended the Korg tuner with the clip on. It gets the job done pretty well. Before the concert, he had every person tune with one individually. The...
I absolutely hate practicing when I'm sick and/or my ears just aren't working right. On these days I usually just practice the exercises at the front of the Arban's book. That way I know my face will...
When I was a sophomore in high school - I'm currently a senior - I was playing on one of those old junky American style euphoniums. I never practiced at that point in time, and I didn't really care...
