I've been known to waive a stick at a band or two............vbmodified
stop thinking; just blow.
Paralysis by analysis is fatal to good music-making.

the best instrument to start on is the one that is available! Seriously! It doesn't matter. Tuba chops are tuba chops no matter what horn you stick them on.
Sure, if you are starting out in a...
and from where I live, the price wasn't fifty odd bucks, it was more like $120 to land it, and neither I, nor my students regret that cost!

I would have to totally and utterly disagree. The tuba version is situated perfectly in the register for the C tuba, and not bad for the Bb tuba. None of my students are using the trombone version...
The Imperial is older but better, and more repairable into a decent horn.
The 700 won't get better no matter what you do to it.

That was good advice Rick! Thanks! It worked; I played quite nicely. Hadn't played euphonium in public for about four years, and what made it particularly scary was there wasn't really any chance to...
I recently accepted a booking on tuba for Vaughan Williams' Pilgrim's Progressin a concert performance and was very surprised to find that the tubist is expected to double on euphonium for about...
I learned on 3+1 instruments, played all through college on a smashing Eb Sovereign 3+1, then as finance permitted shifted to a 5v set up for both C and F. I do prefer the posture that one obtains...
I've always been extremely fussy about cleaning new valves very frequently: for the first four weeks, after every half hour of playing, I take each valve out, wipe it down (with a cloth as described...
Luckily I too have a full set of gnashers, but I have taken steps to ensure that any artificial teeth/plate/dentures required will replicate what I already have. Many years ago an acquaintance had a...
ye gods and little fishes! My heart skipped several beats just looking at the heading; I had nearly passed out by the time I read the last line!

the power of the internet! Yay! This is good news indeed.vbmodified
Heartbreaking news. I will keep my eyes and ears peeled for it.
If it's any consolation, I got my PT6 C tuba back, after it was stolen. But that night without it, before it was found, was awful....
thanks for offering this, deebee! I've emailed you, and am sure myself and the other members of Melbourne Tuba Quartet will enjoy it.

I'm based in Australia, and know the market here pretty well, dvc1964. I've sent you a private message with my email contact details. Happy to advise if you would like.

You'll always get fingering "flashbacks"! I shifted from Eb nearly 20 years ago, and still put down the odd Eb fingering - on a C or F tuba! However, having said that, learn as many fingerings as you...
For my euphonium I use a Denis Wick mute, and also the Denis Wick Practice mute. The latter is extremely good for developing core in the sound. I encourage my students to use it regularly in their...
I love the silky feel of a gold plated mouthpiece, but I find it wears through fairly quickly, even when I had it replated as thickly as possible by a local plater. And I don't have particularly acid...
However, I'd like to add a possibly confusing note of caution. Some publishers, particularly Dutch and German ones, also publish Bb transposed bass clef parts. I've had the misfortune to be given...
thanks for explaining that Dave. I did think it was an odd email address! I am such a computer dill that it didn't occur to me.

Kjetil, I tried to use your email addy in the avatar, but it bounced. Here's the info on tonight's live video stream of the Berg Concerto.

Only this morning I heard an announcement on the radio of a live broadcast of the Berg Violin Concerto later this week: it was described as "one of the most emotional pieces of the twentieth...
Oh, sorry, no, I didn't mean band music!. I don't play in bands, as they're not really a big thing here, except perhaps at school level.
I did mean the darn orchestra music. I'm not anti modern...
