I've been chasing this for 2 days and I think I'm going to bring it into the shop. The one that got me was "Improperly balanced instrument" and no mention of the lyre screw.

Loose parts: Check to see if any of the parts of the euphonium are loose, such as the tuning slides or valve caps. If these parts are not secured tightly, they can rattle and produce unwanted noise....
Speaking of Yamahas, I would love to get the Neo added to the intonation chart! I recently played on an Adams E1 and honestly felt like my Neo stacks up very well in terms of intonation.
Someone should make a universal belly guard. I would love to use one on my Neo.
I used the regular mead springs on my Prestige for years and loved them.
I ordered the light version for my Yamaha Neo and because of the way the bottom of the valves extend out, even the light...
Great read. This puts my old 898xxxx Besson into perspective. It did, indeed, say "Made in England" on the horn.
The Steve Mead travel mute on that site shows 0 dollars. It was also 0 dollars when I added it to cart. Someone should purchase it and see what happens.

I agree with this. I never put my horn on the bell even when it’s in the case. I’m not fond of moldy felt pads!
Just want to let you know these LeFreque plates are pretty controversial. I’m of the camp that they do absolutely nothing.
Here's a video of David Childs going through a euphonium warmup routine using excerpts all from Arbans - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO-G22z4jYY
They are basically taking a page from Apple’s book of bad naming.

Thank you for clarifying, Doug! Do you know if the Conn Trombonium also used a Remington-medium shank? I remember trying the horn and a large shank mouthpiece did not fit and a small shank was...
Sold!
I see a lot of disagreements about American horns having medium shank receivers. I’m going off my memory of my last two “older” horns that I’ve tried. The Conn Connstellation and the Conn trombonium...
I have considered it a few times! There are many advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantage is you have nowhere to put your music and it may be hard to achieve good posture. Also you may have to...
A lot of the old American-style euphoniums have medium shank receivers. I would definitely go with the shank size that fits your horn! It can indeed affect your sound and is why the Adams horns have...
Yes, I am in pretty good physical shape! I need to be more efficient and translate that into my euphonium playing. It might also be that I'm not confidently pushing for those high notes especially in...
I recently started playing euphonium again after a few years hiatus. With less free time now, I'm trying practice smarter than in my high school days. In the past I have focused too much on technical...
What are the best options for recording yourself in a small sized room to critique your own playing?
I'm currently using a Blue Snowball on a boom arm placed about a foot from my bell on the...
I have not spent significant time on the original 642 but from reading other reviews, the Neo is a significant upgrade. In my opinion, the Yamaha custom 842 plays and sounds very similar to my Besson...
How significant is the difference between the 4AL and, say, DC3 or SM4U? I don't have a large collection of mouthpieces to compare with, only the 4AL and the Yamaha MP the Neo came with.
I've been searching for melodic euphonium solos to practice lately. I'm looking for a piece where I can focus on my tone, not so much technical work so not a theme and variation or modern concerto....
Since I got my Yamaha Neo with trigger, I've tried so many things to get the main tuning slide moving smoothly. I've tried Super Slick tuning slide grease, Super Slick trombone cream with and without...
The YEP 642 is called the Maestro, and the YEP 642II is the Neo. The Neo has "Neo" engraved on the bell and the Maestro has "YAMAHA"
I am selling my Besson Prestige BE2051 and original case. This is a British-made BE2051 with serial number indicating it was made in 2003. This horn has some scuffs particularly around the bottom bow...
