Gary,
As i was reading again one of your previous posts, i noticed that you wrote : " Everything else is in tune: high register (at least up to the G above the staff, which is my current limit on...
Thank you for your precisions Gary.
It think i will buy a DW 5, it seems to be the right choice to me.
hi
I have to play a small 3v Eb tuba in a street band and want to change the mouthpiece as i find the one provided to be too large to me.
But i don't know what kind of mouthpiece i can use as it...
Thank you for your answers.
I understand what you mean, but this may occur even if i don't feel any particular vibration on my lips ?
Because i don't remember that kind of sensation...
Gulp, it...
I had a rehearsal yesterday night, and while i am still happy with my neo, something weird happened...
First, my little slide on the 2nd valve started to slip down and i had to hold it with my left...
Yes, my 1st slide is pushed the all way in.
I've found that the pitch is worse when playing with my mute (i have to use it in my flat unfortunately), as my test with a tuner was not so bad without...
Sorry Dave, i probably misused the word "high" C, i meant "the C of the fourth line on the staff", treble clef.
I tried :
1 : very flat
13 : a bit high
4 : as flat as 1
13 is the best...
I noticed, as John did, that high C is really flat with 1st valve, although the rest of the horn's range is really good.
I'm using 1+3 as a work around, even if this combination is a bit high in...
Thank you all, first rehearsal tonight, hope i will get the best from my new horn!
SO, first rehearsal done.
What a sound ! It's even bigger than expected, especially the low range. Usually,...
Finally, i've just received my Yamaha 642 Neo, a demo laquer one at a good price.
It is flawless, as brand new, i'm so happy!
It sounds very good and has a very good intonation, except maybe the...
You're obviously right.
The neo is the one i tried and i chose, and i don't want to take the risk to buy a maestro if it does not have the sound i'm looking for.
Do you think i shouldn't buy a neo...
Thanks John.
When i tried the Neo, i found the sound to be really nice. It's mostly the sound and the full and clear low range that i loved.
I wondered if the maestro already have a similar sound...
Hi
According to a table i found some time ago, they might have been built in 1971.
The model should appear clearly on the bell.
But i could be wrong as i am certainly not a specialist.
I've tried the neo and would really like to buy one.
But i saw a bargain on a Yamaha 642 Maestro, which is greater for my wallet.
Do you think the differences between the Maestro and the...
Hi
The 51D and 4AL have very different cup size : 25.5mm the 51D vs 26mm for the 4AL.
You should first check the mouthpieces comparison provided by Dave, at least to check the cup sizes....
When i tried the 642 Neo last week, i used my SM4-X : the tone was dark and really big and beautiful. I think this MP and this horn fit well together.
Hi all
I found this video on Youtube, it's a delight to hear and to watch!

I've just tried the Wisemann 950SG (Wisemann high end with trigger) and the Yamaha 642 Neo, and tried to be as objective as possible.
Both have a superior quality building. The Wisemann is not a bad...
Thanks, i didn't noticed the 2 years between posts ! :)
I wish i could try a Jinbao in order to compare with the Wisemann, it woud be very interesting.
Unfortunately, the store where i've planned...
Thanks Gary.
I've already found this topic and there not really much information about it. It's truely difficult to find some readings about it.
I found another post from a wessex member -Neptune-...
Hello All,
I wonder if someone has some informations about the Wisemann brand ?
It's a chinese made but it seems to have a good reputation and is not one more Jinbao's rebranded euphonium. The...
Thanks for your advice Dave, that makes sense.
Of course, i'm not going to buy a new horn because of a nice video on youtube. :)
That said, i think it can help to know if a horn has a rather good...
Thank you both for your answers.
I'm currently gathering informations about euphoniums as i'd like to buy a 4 valves one.
The neo seems to be one of the best options for me, but i'm still...
Hi
Just want to know what to think about valves on the 642 neo ? According to most people, besson (after 2007) has the best valves, and as i could try a 842 custom, i found the valves a bit soft...
