Congratulations on your new horn! Thanks for the review

I got tired of the advertising with the free g-string tuner, so I downloaded the 4 dollar "Cleartune" tuner for the Android platform. I love it! It works great!

I bought one last year, got bored with it and gave it to my son. He got bored with it and now it is in a drawer with a host of mouthpieces. I wish brass was a precious metal, I would be rich.
It...
That certainly is a nice looking horn....

If guys like this keep forcing the issue, then I think there will eventually be more performance venues for the euphonium. The Big Band thing is cool!

As for slotting, break out your tuner. Play different passages and notes with your eyes closed. Stop on a note, open your eyes and look at the tuner. Where are you on the note? Are you 5 or 10 cents...
I don't think you would neccesarily call the Holton a stencil horn as it is understood on these forums. I think the Holton would be called a clone. The Weril 980 is also a clone of the Yamaha 321...
Nice chords...love the Tubas at 1:16 in the video...enjoyed it!

The Melody Shop went as well as can be expected in our May 20 concert. It was our encore, and my chops were already beat down to behin with. But, we made it through.
Breathing through those parts...

My repair guy Scott Mandeville who owns and operates Tim's Music in Sacramento just "customized" my Yamaha 321 for me and made all of the slides work the way I like them. Before, they were all just a...
Very cool looking device, nice work, but I think this is a pretty yucky topic.
I would rather let me pants and horn catch the spit than to have to handle that thing after a rehearsal..
It looks...
One other thing to think about is your hand and finger position. I can make any valve on any horn stick by pushing against it laterally instead of straight up and down. This could be an even bigger...
Where can we hear it?

I am not sure what all the hoopla is about a grime catcher. I have never used one. What does it do? My horn doesn't leak out of the valves very often unless I put too much oil on.
I don't think I...
I had one of those horns. It is a four valve non compensating horn. It is a large shank so you will have many choices in mouthpieces.
At a minimum, stick with the 6.5 AL until you get used to it....
I just thought I would add an update. I ended up sticking with the 4AY for my Yamai 321. It just has a much more beautiful sound. You get used to the upper register after a while. The bottom end is...
I was stationed in Iceland at the Keflavik NAS from 1993-1994. I loved it there. It is a very beautiful country.
There are many things to do and see there and the people are very nice. It is a...
If you love the euphonium just play it and enjoy yourself.
If you play like Steven Mead, David Childs, or any of the other great soloists, then you may be on to something big. You should know by...
Steven Mead says the internals are identical between the ultra and the standard SM series. The difference is in the mass on the outside of the mouthpiece if that makes sense.
I haven't played an...
I bought a PETE last year. I tried it for awhile on my way to work and back. I got tired of it fairly quickly and PETE it away in a drawer somewhere with my mouthpiece collection.

Hello there,
I am in a Salvation Army style fellowship band in Sacramento, CA. With our precussion section, we are normally right around 30 members, not including the bandmaster. We are pretty...
