And a great tone from that New Standard.
Reminds me a bit of Mr. Baglin's playing.

I vote for Lignum Vitae!
(but that would be a DIY)

A good place to do research:

Hi Micah,
Fixing up a good, older horn is viable. The key is it was a GOOD horn to begin with.
I fell in love with and bought a New Standard back in high school (late 60's). I had to sell it...
I've never played a lead-pipe tuner that had decent intonation...
Just saying.

His technique is excellent. You can really hear him wrestle with the intonation problems inherent in euphs of the era.
All in all, a good job doing so.

Using Clearasil or some such complexion cream can cause that.
Any contact with a Sulfurous compound will tarnish Silver immediately.

A nifty trigger design.

Thanks Rick!
I got to see them perform years ago when I was in college.

I haven't played since I broke my neck back in May. At first, the doc said no. Then limited time doing so. Now I'm cleared full OK.
Previously the virus shut down my banding and then Tuba...
If only I could channel Lyndon. My playing would be perfect!

I love the fact that the euph was a satin finish New Standard!

No wonder no one wants to sit to my right...LOL.

Scrumptous!

Good job! A Polka just ain't a Polka without a tuba.

The wrap looks a lot like my 1918 Hawkes & Son 3&1.

3 & 1 euphs came about for a reason. Over a hundred years ago, even.
Weak pinkys in most players, and your left hand was already there, holding the horn.

Touches two of my favorite things: Radio & euphonium.
Hard to tell if Mantia used the whisper bell at all.

Yep, loosen the screw just a tad, and don't forget to make sure the valve still has a bit of movement so as not to mash the felts when stored. Just pry it very slightly with fingers to adjust...
Turn it up...

One great compilation of bands. That is a tough technical nut to crack with all the vagaries of the internet--well played.

Hi FujiFilm,
Here's one you can add:
Suite on Celtic Folk Songs
TATEBE, T - Bravo/Brain Music
This a a great piece for band.

I have a restored New Standard in satin.
I've tried every possible method to 'clean' the satin finish without gradually bringing it to 'polished' state.
Every time you rub it with polish...
Thanks for that, John. It pulls at my heart, as my mom emigrated from Germany in 1928.
These ladies do justice over there, too: https://youtu.be/H_sBjG7pCRQ?list=LL
