do you feel like alternate fingerings are too cumbersome to get those notes in tune? Or do they not fix the intonation enough to start with?

765 was an intermediate level horn. whether it's of higher quality... greatly depends on the year of construction and general quality control.
I have tested 2 from the late 90s that were actual...
Just for the 165 vs 1065: if with the 165 you mean the current Prodige 165, that one would be a newer/newest generation student instrument compared to the 1065, which is a much older generation of...
Maybe it's me but it also kinda looks like the 1st valve compensating slide is rotted through. Which would also need a patch or a completely new slide.
I use an app called 'soundcorset' which has a tuner, metronome and since a couple of months, a practice diary thing. You can also record yourself but I haven't tried that out yet so idk how solid...
I honestly don't know the answer to the questions above...
I think I'll have to wait until my Sovereign gets back from Adams (which I actually have to go after since it's been a wee bit too long for...
Interesting view of the differences.
I just tried measuring the distance on my Willson 2960TA and got roughly 80mm.
the 842 not having one feels... REALLY weird especially coming from Yamaha... Yeah I also don't understand.
I would also not bother putting new water keys on the 3rd and 4th slides. If you barely...
Oxidation of the copper inner tubing can always look 'unclean', but that doesn't necessarily mean it's actually in bad condition. Could you post a picture of one of the valves with the holes?
I'm...
I had an inkling from your name you might be a fellow Dutchman :D
if you don't mind me asking, what part of the Netherlands do you live? to narrow down some of your options.
if it's just holes in the tubing inside the pistons, it might be a permanent fix if done well.
if it's in the piston *walls* ... I believe it's the same story, but might be trickier to do well.
ideally Besson, Yamaha et.al. offer medium shank options on their instruments too, but we all know that's probably never going to happen xD
Good to hear the tinkering went well!
Any changes on intonation? Or did that stay the same?
Makes you wonder why they didn't initially design it as a fully floating leadpipe to start with...
also after looking more carefully, the ports in the two rightmost valves look a bit... unfinished? Like the port walls aren't properly connected to the piston wall?
it has technically been available for almost a year now at least in the Netherlands according to some music store websites I sometimes check. But there's barely any publicity for it.
thanks!!! it does look great! love the blue felt inlays in the top valve caps, nice touch.
I do really hope there will be more videos on it though with comparisons to both the Sovereign and its...
well yes but no-one outside people that frequent forums like these know it even exists unless you happen to see one on the online pages of a music store or happen to run into it at a band contest or...
I have to say it irks me quite a bit that Besson has given barely ANY publicity to this model.
I mean, their designs are completely different, but even then 2300€ is a LOT of difference between two pro level instruments... then again, the difference between the Besson Sovereign and Prestige is...
Maybe they measured the 4th valve tuning slide instead, usually those are between 16 and 17mm
btw Dave, what generation/build year was the 'Sovereign 967' on the intonation charts again?
I have to say that looking at the New Standard, old 967 and newest 967 charts, it seems that the...
I just saw on Besson's Instagram page that the new 969 Sovereign eupho will be present at the NAMM show in California at January 25th to 28th...
only real memory I have is when I was playing in my first local concert band as a 10-year-old. Reformed Christian village, so everyone attended the Christmas Eve mass in Church. It went on for almost...
I'm curious to see what else is different about it, especially compared to the 968, since that model already has an 11 inch bell. Maybe the entire bell taper is different, who knows.
Exactly xD I have to say Willson and Adams (obviously) are gaining more ground lately, although Willson is still a dark horse in that regard. I guess it's mainly because Yamahas are used as student...
