No. Al Baer typically plays it on F tuba. Last time, The NY Times Critic made a snide remark which I thought was unwarranted, having been at that performance.
You may be thinking of Mahler 7,...
I have a neo and a 955 sovereign. The sound is very similar, but the Neo is more resonant and has better intonation. I bought mine sight unseen, and it’s great.
Thanks. I’ve been present for almost every performance of the piece to date. The Bozeman performances were definitely the best so far.

I believe Anthony ran treble clef versions on request for some folks. You might drop him a message through his website.
The solo part is mostly in tenor clef, which should make it a little easier...
The 5050 in my experience has octaves that are slightly stretched. The 2nd partial runs a little low IF you tune the 3rd partial Bb. Instead, I tune the 2nd partial, and ride the trigger above the...
I’ve owned 3 5050’s over 10 years. 2 were exceptional, and one was only very good. I love this instrument, and I have no desire to play any other euphonium. I’ve played the Planets with two different...
Tonight, November 20 at 7:30 PM Mountain time (9:30 pm Eastern time) and Tomorrow November 21 at 2:30 PM Mountain time (9:30 pm Eastern time) Demondrae Thurman will premiere the orchestral version of...
I once had an intermittently sticky first valve that defied cleaning and oiling. After going nuts for weeks, I finally inspected the casing under high intensity light and magnification, and found a...
I think it WAS me that said that. The Prestige has a strong characteristic sound (I like the word “diffuse”), but rounded corners is a great description also. This sound CAN be overcome (ref David...
Bravo!!!
wonderful work, Micah.

I’ll jump in here and confirm everything Rick, John, and Demondrae have said, which is that I’ve never had a problem with the 4th valve range on any of the 3 5050’s I’ve owned over the last 10 years....
i had a 5-valve Miraphone 56A. Great sound, really challenging intonation and crappy ergonomics.

And here’s “Song from Wales” which was a gift from Tom for me and Demondrae.

The opening phrase of “Bach in Brooklyn” is the second menuet from Bach’s first Cello suite. I commissioned it to play at the wedding of a section mate in a band I used to play with. He liked Bach.
I forgot one:
“Bach in Brooklyn” Tom Davoren- Tuba Euphonium Quartet

My list is a little longer:
a lot of these pieces are for oddball instrumentation, and were intended as opening fanfares for my Don Winston & Friends concert series.
the euphonium concerti...
My worst accident was while driving to rehearsal, I got cut off and had to brake hard. My miraphone 5050 was in the back of my suv in a gig bag, and rolled forward and back, so that it was right...
Micah-
I have commissioned works from Tom Davoren, and Pete Meechan, and my most recent was two works from Steven Verhelst that were to have been premiered at the postponed Don Winston & Friends...
Great topic, Micah. I know you and I have discussed this privately. I certainly think it’s important to commission new works, and the consortium is definitely the primary way new band works get...
Beautiful piece and execution Micah. well done. The emotion of playing a piece that you commissioned always comes through.

Micah- I wouldn’t assume that the response you feel from the AR mouthpiece is attributable to the material unless you’ve played an identical mouthpiece in other materials.
i seem to recall AR...
Doug-
it was my first ever audition, and we were told not to speak, as the proctor in the room was not supposed to know our names, only instrument and number. I found out later I could’ve stopped...
Doug, that reminds me of my first audition for a high-end concert band in NYC a few years ago. The auditions were blind recorded auditions. I had a plan for the whole excerpt, and walked in, and as...
FYI, John, Demondrae uses his MP on trombone as well.
I use a Warburton 7ST with a custom rim that’s the identical profile and size (1.03”) to the Demondrae. I do love that rim, and the switch...
