Rate this Entry
The 4th of July is a national holiday in the USA - today is the 241st anniversary of the signing of our Declaration of Independence.

Let's start with a piece by the iconic American composer John Philip Sousa: Nymphalin. It's a nice little parlor piece with a rather sweet sound.

This is the University of Iowa's Hawkeye Marching Band playing "American the Beautiful." Sorry I don't have a real video because there are heralding trumpets at the end!

Next is the Coast Guard Band segments on a Today Show, back in 1992:

And what better piece to put up on July 4 than the Stars & Stripes Forever, played by the Atlantic Tuba Quartet (Coast Guard Euphonium-Tuba Quartet members). In 1987, Congress declared this to be the National March of the United States.
