A Loss to the Euphonium World

Rate this Entry
I have just learned that the British euphoniumist Marcus Cutts has passed away at the age of 80. It was many years ago that a friend gave me a recording of Marcus - I believe he was playing To a Wild Rose, if memory serves. In any case, his name stuck in my mind because of the fine playing I heard on that recording. Here is an excerpt from an article on 4barsrest.com:

"BR has been informed of the death of Marcus Cutt former principal euphonium with the Fairey Band. He was an integral member of the band that won a hat-trick of British Open victories in 191/62/63 and again in 1965 when the band achieved the double by wining the National Championships of Great Britain."
